Kane was born in Tacoma, WA and moved to Los Angeles in 2004 to pursue a career in adult entertainment. She signed with Mark Spiegler of spieglergirl.com known as the elite agency of the adult film industry. Kane quickly became a popular name in adult for her genuine performances on camera. In 2006 at the age of 21 she directed her first movie for Pulse Entertainment entitled Naked & Famous which received a 5 star review from AVN Magazine the highest rating they give. Shortly after Vivid Entertainment approached Kane to direct for Vivid-Alt a branch dedicated to giving artists a platform to create high-end adult content with an alternative look to standard pornography. This is where Kane cut her teeth in filmmaking, editing and photography. Kane used mixed media in her movies including Super 8mm film; giving her movies unique aesthetic.
During Kane’s time at Vivid-Alt she was also performing in a style of porn movie called “Parody” which recreated some of the world’s most beloved movies and television shows into mostly campy xxx feature productions. In 2010, Kane was cast to play Dana Scully in New Sensations The Sex Files, winning Kane Best Actress across all adult industry platforms.
Kane was now known for leading big budget features in the adult industry but she continued to pursue her passion for artistic adult film making. Kane signed a deal with Good Vibrations, known for their female focused adult retail stores. Good Vibes created a small video branch and wanted to emulate the artistic vision of the Alt-Porn movement. In 2011, Kane was given an Honorable Mention at the Feminist Porn Awards for a film she directed and starred in entitled ‘My Own Master’ Kane called the movie “A love letter to owning my true sexuality and knocking down the wall between the straight and gay porn divide.” My Own Master notably had a bi-scene in a straight movie which at the time was still taboo.
Kane also continued to pursue her love of photography. In 2012, her writing and photography was published twice in Vice Magazine; shooting a portrait series entitled ‘Girls of Hollywood’ and a Q&A and photo documentary piece entitled ‘Zak Loves Mandy’ about artist Zak Smith and girlfriend (pornstar/suicide girl) Mandy Morbid.
During this time Kane’s photography was also selected by Dian Hanson for Taschen’s ‘The New Erotic Photographer Book Vol. 2’ Kane also appeared as cover model on Taschen’s ‘Big Book of Pussy’ notably Kane asked to be paid in art books for the modeling job.
In 2013, Kane was approached by a group of fellow performers who were forming an advocacy group for adult performers in the adult film industry. Kane, already known for her strong opposition against Measure B (The Condom Law) was an obvious choice to be a founding member of the organization that would soon become APAC (Adult Performers Advocacy Committee) which Kane acted as Treasurer and co-wrote Porn 101, an informative video for anyone wanting to join the adult film industry. The Porn 101 video is now standard viewing material for anyone entering the adult film industry. APAC is now considered the voice of adult performers within the industry and in mainstream media. APAC represents performers in the gay, straight and queer branches of the adult film industry.
Also in 2013, Kane returned as a lead actress in a new spin on the porn parody genre called “Super Hero.” Kane played Wonder Woman in two Axel Braun features, one of them winning Kane Best Sex Scene at the XBiz Awards and notably the promotional photos of Kane in the Wonder Woman costume went viral on social and mainstream media. Kane later participated in a charity auction where the costume was sold and the proceeds were donated to the Free Speech Coalition.
In 2015, Kane signed on as host of Viceland/Munchies Sex+Food, a TV show that explores food fetishes, food domination and food products related to sex. Also in 2015 Kane signed on with Penthouse Magazine to shoot/photograph their celebrity directed photo shoots called Pop-Shots. Since coming on board with Penthouse Kane has worked with Keith Hufnagel, skateboarder and owner of HUF WORLDWIDE clothing brand, Neek Lurk, creator of Anti Social Social Club and comedian/actor Steve Agee.
Kane is currently producing content for her own production company and developing a documentary series about women in the sex industry and their feminist contributions to their local communities.
A few words about the work and Kimberly Kane
So having a tough knock-about life ending in porn at age 19 isn’t necessary to become a great sexual photographer, but it sure hasn’t hurt Kimberly Kane’s gritty nuanced body of work. For one, she has a tasty trough of model friends to draw from; for another she’s spent so much time in front of the camera that she knows what’s possible, believable and jerk-worthy. Not that she’d care if you can jerk to her work, because like any good photographer, her aim is personal expression; it’s just that when she sees a shot unfolding, she knows, instantly, intuitively, that the sexual gears are meshing. And to me, as Taschen’s Sexy Book editor, that stuff counts.
